Missions are a vital part of the College Hill congregation. There are always places to volunteer and help however you can. Take a look below at a partial list of the ministries here at CHUM. If you would like to get more involved, please contact the church office.
BROOKSIDE CLOTHING STORE & UM OPEN DOOR KLOTHES KLOSET
College Hill collects gently used clothing year round. The clothes are picked up by a member of our congregation and taken to Brookside UMC Clothing Store in Planeview, or the United Methodist Open Door Klothes Kloset, where clothing can be properly distributed to those in need. The container is in the closet by Fellowship Hall and the Chapel.
Every spring a variety of vegetables are planted in the CHUM Community garden. As vegetables grow, all neighbors are welcome to pick what they need for their dinner tables. If you would like to volunteer in the garden, please contact Patty Ruzich in the church office.
DROP-IN CENTER LUNCHES
Providing a nutritional lunch to over 100 homeless men and women in our community. If you, a group of your friends or your Sunday School would like to provide lunches, please contact Debbie Snell in the church office.
The CHUM Food Pantry is open the first Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and on the 3rd Saturday of each month, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Participants may receive one sack of non-perishable groceries each month. Our congregation donates non-perishable food items and funds to this ministry.
BREAD BASKET and LOAVES and FISHES
The Bread Basket at 8:30 and the Loaves and Fishes at 10:45 are taken up during our Sunday morning Celebrations. All funds received go to help support the CHUM Food Pantry.
On the 3rd Saturday of each month, College Hill offers a free breakfast and Open Food Pantry. Volunteers cook and serve breakfast, distribute food Pantry items and visit with our Food Pantry families. If you would like to volunteer with the breakfast, please show up at 8:30 a.m. and enter through the doors on the West end of the Education Building.
SOUP LABELS AND POP TABS
Pop tabs and Campbell Soup Labels are collected throughout the year. Pop tabs help support our local Ronald McDonald House. Campbell’s labels are compiled and sent to McCurdy School in Espanola, New Mexico. McCurdy is a United Methodist mission school, providing an education for area children. McCurdy can turn in Campbell’s labels for various items for needed for their school, collection containers are in the church office.
